Kosher travel in Asia

Frequently Asked Questions

Honest, practical answers about planning kosher food across Asia - what is realistic, how we work, and what to arrange ahead.

The basics

How does kosher food work when traveling across Asia?

It depends heavily on where you go. A few cities have an active Jewish presence and community options, while most destinations have little or no kosher infrastructure. In practice we build a plan per trip: prepared meals, a private chef, community meals where they exist, and deliveries to your hotel, villa, or along your route. We start by checking what is actually possible at your specific destinations.

Which destinations do you cover?

We focus on Asia, including Vietnam, Bali / Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, and Japan. If your destination is not listed, we can still check what is possible - reach out and we will look into it.

How far in advance should we plan?

As early as you can, especially for groups, Shabbat, and holidays. There is no fixed number of days because it depends on the destination and how much has to be sourced or built locally - remote itineraries and festivals need the most lead time. Reaching out early simply gives us room to arrange everything properly.

How does pricing work?

There is no fixed price list because every request is different. Cost depends on the destination, group size, service level, and how much has to be brought in or built locally. Send us your details and we will come back with a clear proposal.

Kashrut and standards

What level of kashrut do you provide?

It varies by destination and by your requirements. We confirm the available standard for each location before you commit, so you know exactly what you are getting rather than being promised more than a place can deliver.

Do you have your own kosher certification (hechsher)?

No. We are not a certifying agency and we do not issue our own hechsher. What we do is coordinate and verify - we work with recognized kosher standards, local supervision where it exists, and trusted suppliers, and we are always clear about the level available at each destination.

Can you source wine and challah?

In most destinations, yes - subject to local availability. Wine or grape juice for Kiddush and challah for Shabbat are part of what we plan for, and we confirm what can be sourced locally versus brought in as part of the planning.

Can you accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?

In most cases, yes. Allergies, vegetarian or other dietary needs, and preferences within a kosher framework can usually be planned for, especially with a private chef or prepared meals. Tell us the details in advance so the menu and sourcing account for them.

Shabbat, holidays and Chabad

Can you arrange Shabbat and the chagim (holidays)?

Yes, and Shabbat is usually the part of a trip that needs the most planning. A typical setup covers the meals, challah, wine or grape juice, and hot food kept warm without cooking - arranged in your hotel, villa, or venue. Where a local community or Chabad house is active we can work with it; where there is none, we build the setup from scratch.

Can you handle Passover (Pesach)?

Yes. Pesach needs the earliest planning of all because of kosher-for-Passover food, Seder meals, and kitchens or spaces prepared to your standard. Depending on the destination and group size we assist with hotel kashering and full holiday solutions, so reach out well ahead.

Do you work with Chabad houses and local communities?

When the option exists in the destination, yes - a local Chabad house or community can be part of the solution, particularly for Shabbat and holidays. Where there is no infrastructure, we build a tailored, standalone solution from scratch.

Service and logistics

Can you provide a private chef?

Yes. For villas, retreats, and longer group stays, a private kosher chef is often the most comfortable option - the kitchen is set up to your standard, ingredients are sourced or brought in, and everything from daily meals to a full Shabbat is prepared on-site. It removes the daily question of what to eat.

Do you work with groups, families, and individual travelers?

We work mainly with organized groups and families, where a coordinated kosher setup makes the most sense. We also help independent travelers with practical guidance on what is realistic at their destination, including products they can buy locally. There is no rigid minimum - tell us your situation and we will tell you honestly what fits.

Can you help with last-minute or short-notice requests?

Sometimes, depending on the destination and what is involved. Simple requests in a well-connected city are more flexible; Shabbat, holidays, groups, and remote locations are much harder at short notice because food often has to be sourced or brought in. It is always worth asking - we will tell you straight away what is realistic.
